Results depend on the moment, your Wi‑Fi and the device. Ping under 100 ms and low jitter matter for live sports and channel zapping; a wired Ethernet connection is always the most stable option.

Add the streams together for everyone watching at once, then leave about 20% of headroom for everything else in the house. Two HD screens and a video call is comfortable at roughly 40 Mbps.
Latency matters less for live TV than for gaming, but anything consistently above 150 ms tends to make channel changes feel slow.
If the number is lower than you expected
- Test again next to the router. A big difference means Wi-Fi is the bottleneck, not your plan.
- Use an ethernet cable for the television if you can. It fixes more buffering than any other single change.
- Move the router out of a cabinet, away from the floor and away from thick walls.
- Check what else is running. Another device downloading in the background takes its share.
- Test at the hour you watch. Some connections slow noticeably in the evening.
